sorry for the awful quality of video, i took it on my phone.
experiments with automatic painting.
i painted the sole of my right shoe black and then walked down the corridor. i painted the sole of my right shoe black and then ran down the corridor.
this video captures the painting left behind.

what can i say? i had fun today..
'This Way?', Sophie Watkins (2014)
loads of experiments went down in the studios today. this is the first of 2 automatic paintings and the most successful. the other was white on white and probably filmed for a little too long.

so the general consensus from the burns idea was that i’m an idiot and shouldn’t do that.
i mean to photograph it for upcoming shows, that along side a potential video piece which i’ll hopefully be making on Monday. it was suggested that instead of physically smashing my head into a wall (which would take ages and hurt a lot) i could cut a corner by putting sandpaper on the wall. gonna give it a go and hopefully post the result!
i burnt my leg this morning.
it hurts but not actually hurts? it’s like a white light, once you get past the initial shock it’s ok. it’s getting hotter the more time passes. the skin is blistered and soft. the top skin is pale and translucent the skin below is going pink?
the thing i find interesting about burns is the skin looks so perfect momentarily. then it boils up and swells. it’s still soft but it feels wrong, the skin reacts immediately to try and protect itself. one of them is white but it doesn’t hurt at all?i guess that one will be the worst.
I’ve had this idea around physical boundaries, to see how far i can push myself.
'smacking your head against a brick wall'. is it possible to smack your own head in to the point when it's bleeding?
getting creative in the new flat!
can’t believe i’m painting again, but i’m loving it!
'Theory of thought' Sophie Watkins, 2013
This is my final and main piece for the exhibition on Monday.
If its viewers take advantage of it during the show then fantastic, i’ll be thrilled, if people choose to leave it alone then that’s fine too. I’ll keep you posted on it’s changes and developments. I’m nervous that people will not understand the connection and just vandalise it, but I guess that’s all part of leaving it open to the public
'Theories of why (I'm a bad person)', Sophie Watkins, 2013.
see my blog for more work with similar themes
p.s. i shouldn’t have to reblog my own work, i appreciate this massively, but i just wish people would add a source :(
i took last night off and had some fun.
drew this mad looking dog - hypnotised by his boggley eyes.
